This is Rosamund Pike as you’ve never seen her before. In I care a lot she plays an amoral glamorous business woman who specialises in slapping care orders on elderly and confused people thus gaining control of the their lives, and more importantly, their wealth. Once you’ve got past the distasteful premise (true by the way – this really happens) then it’s worth sitting back and enjoying this stylish thriller.
Marla (Pike) identifies her prey using a network of conspirators, but in the case of Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest) she miscalculates. Unbeknown to her, Jennifer has a son, mafia chief, Roman, played by the inimitable Peter Dinklage looking truly sinister – who will go to any lengths to get his mum back. Marla, like Roman, refuses to be beaten and an entertaining if nail-biting game of cat and mouse ensues. This is another great lockdown movie, real Friday night entertainment. Pike has been nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Comedy – be warned, the comedy is definitely on the dark side!
